Project Overview:

On Thursday (30th August) Thiess along with consortium partners Degremont, Suez Environment and Macquarie Capital Group were awarded the PPP scheme to building largest desalination plant in Australia, at cost of $3.5bil.

Under a public-private partnership with the Victorian government, AquaSure will design, construct, finance and operate the desalination plant.

The plant is expected to be complete in 2011, producing 150 billion litres of drinking water a year.

It will have a 25-year life span.

The desalination project was expected to cost $3.1 billion when announced two years ago.

It has now blown out to $3.5 billion.
